14-year-old critically injured in crash on I-10 in Escambia County; Man arrested for DUI

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 14-year-old Cantonment boy was critically injured in a rollover crash Wednesday night on Interstate 10 in Escambia County, resulting in a DUI arrest.

Shawn Wilber, 49, of Daphne, is charged with DUI resulting in serious injuries to another person.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on I-10 west near mile marker 9.

It involved a pickup truck that Wilber was driving and a van.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the van — driven by a 50-year-old Cantonment woman — was carrying five passengers:

  • 50-year-old Cantonment man
  • 14-year-old Cantonment boy
  • 25-year-old Cantonment man
  • 12-year-old Cantonment boy
  • 27-year-old Cantonment man

All suffered minor injuries except for the 14-year-old boy, who was hospitalized in critical condition.

FHP says Wilber suffered minor injuries. He is in Escambia County Jail on $1,500 bond.
