17-year-old bicyclist struck, killed on Dale Mabry Highway, FHP says

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A 17-year-old boy riding a bicycle was struck and killed while crossing Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

On Saturday evening, troopers said a 17-year-old Tampa girl in a Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Dale Mabry, following behind a 60-year-old Tampa woman in a Mazda CX-5.

As both vehicles went through the intersection of Mapledale Boulevard under a green light, a 17-year-old bicyclist attempted to cross the highway.

FHP said the teen driver struck the bicyclist. As the teen’s vehicle continued forward, she struck the back of the Mazda CX-5.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment where he later died from his injuries.
