18-year-old driver killed in Orange County after spinning out into utility pole

An 18-year-old man from Apopka was killed on Monday night in a single-vehicle crash.

According to a report from FHP, the man was traveling southbound on Rock Springs Road, south of Ponkan Road, when he left his lane for unknown reasons.

FHP says this caused the driver to overcorrect — spinning the car across travel lanes, onto the sidewalk and into a utility pole.

According to the report, the impact was strong enough to send the car back into the travel lanes.

The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to the report, there were no passengers in the vehicle.

FHP says this crash remains under investigation.
