19-year-old charged with beating child with belt in Okaloosa County

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — A 19-year-old man is charged with beating a child with a belt in Okaloosa County.

Brian Brown Jr. of Crestview was arrested Sunday on a charge of child abuse.

According to the arrest report, Brown grabbed the child and put him in a headlock, threw him to the ground and then hit him with a belt.

The report states multiple witnesses told deputies the same details.

According to the report, deputies interviewed Brown, who told them he drove to the child’s home with the intent to “punish him” for an altercation from the day prior. He also admitted to hitting the child once with a belt before leaving.

“[Brown] is not the father, legal guardian, or caretaker for the victim,” deputies wrote in the report.

The report did not specify the child’s age or how Brown knew the victim.

Brown was released from Okaloosa County Jail Monday on $5,000 bond.
