Two men were arrested after one bit a deputy and K9 while the other ran out into the street with a 4-year-old, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Deputies responded to two men asleep in the front of a black 2006 Honda Accord that was parked at a pump at a gas station with a 4-year-old in the back seat around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3.
When deputies arrived they tried to make sure everyone was alright in the car, but one of the people inside the car, Angel, tried starting the vehicle and an in-car scuffle ensued, PSCO said.
During the fight with the deputy, A hit, pushed, and bit the deputy.
Deputies said K9 Zorak was deployed and A grabbed the dog and began biting its ear.
“That didn’t sit well with Zorak’s human partner who immediately put A into time-out,” Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
While the fight was happening, the second person in the car, E, grabbed the 4-year-old and ran out into the intersection of Ronald Reagan Parkway and Lake Wilson Road.
Deputies quickly handcuffed E and the 4-year-old girl was unharmed and turned over to DCF.
A and E were charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
A was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, battery on a K9, and resisting.
E was charged with possession of a stolen firearm he had on him, battery of a law enforcement officer, resisting, and child abuse.
Deputies said K9 Zorak and the deputy will be ok.
