2 officers injured in crash involving Miami-Dade Schools Police, MDSO

A Miami-Dade Schools Police officer and a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputy were injured in a crash Wednesday, officials said.

The incident happened just before 5 p.m. in the area of Northwest 7th Avenue and 67th Street.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s officials said a Miami-Dade School Board officer was working at Miami Northwestern Senior High when an on-duty Robbery Intervention Detail deputy crashed into the marked school unit.

Both officers were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

Miami Fire Rescue officials said both were in serious but stable condition. Sheriff’s officials said they are expected to recover.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed a dark colored vehicle with front end damage and a Miami-Dade Schools Police vehicle also damaged and off the roadway up against a fence and tree.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation, officials said.
