2 pedestrians killed hours apart in separate Marion County crashes

Two crashes just two hours apart in Marion County left two pedestrians dead overnight, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported just after 11 p.m. on State Road 326, just east of Northwest 40th Terrace.

Troopers said a car, driven by a 28-year-old man, was headed east on State Road 326 when he hit a 76-year-old man who was walking in the road.

FHP said it’s unclear why the man was walking in the inside lane of the highway. He died at the hospital.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt, troopers said.

Just two hours later, shortly before 1:30 a.m., another man was hit by a tractor-trailer and died on the U.S. 27 overpass of I-75 southbound, according to FHP.

Troopers said the man, whose age has not been released, was on the overpass when he “darted into the southbound lanes directly in front of the tractor-trailer.”

The pedestrian died at the scene.

The 50-year-old man driving the semi was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt, the report said.
