23-year-old man arrested for triple killing at Escambia County adult birthday party

A 23-year-old man is charged with three counts of murder for a shooting in Escambia County in late April that left three people dead.

Torrance Sumler was arrested Monday on three counts offirst-degree premeditated murder. He’s being held in Escambia County Jail without bond.

The shooting took place on April 28 at an adult birthday partyat West Jackson Square on 65th Avenue and Jackson Street.

Deputies located the three victims with gunshot wounds in a parked car. Two of the victims died at the scene, while the third died at the hospital.

“This is a terrible tragedy that we are investigating as a targeted ambush”, Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said at the time.

In mid-July, WEAR News spoke to the mother of one of the victims,Trayshawn Powers, as she continued to plead for justice in the case.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that the investigation is ongoing.

No further details were released.
