A 24-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection to the death of a man found shot in his car on Interstate 295 at the Interstate 10 interchange in May.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office found Derrick Nicholls, 22, suffering from a gunshot wound after the car had traveled off the road into the tree line.
Nicholls was taken to the hospital, where he died.
JSO said evidence at the scene led them to Santos Herring.
Herring was already in jail on unrelated charges. He is now facing a second-degree murder charge.
JSO did not disclose what led to the shooting or the relationship of the people involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are looking for any other individuals involved.
