A suspect is in custody after hitting multiple Hillsborough County deputies with his vehicle to avoid being arrested, Hillsborough County Sherriff’s Office said.
Deputies attempted to stop a Chrysler 300 for illegal window tint and not stopping at a stop sign around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 9.
Sean Bolton, 28, did not pull over and fled the scene to Carriage Point subdivision, where HCSO deputies deployed stop sticks. While deputies were deploying the stop sticks, Bolton allegedly aimed his vehicle at a HCSO deputy, according to HCSO.
The deputy took immediate action to avoid being hit.
According to HCSO, deputies continued to follow the vehicle where they tried a vehicle interception technique, but Bolton rammed into two HCSO vehicles before fleeing the scene.
“This individual has multiple opportunities to do the right thing and pull over, but instead, he chose to continue his reckless and dangerous behavior, showing a complete disregard for the safety of our deputies and the community members around him,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
A pursuit that lasted under a mile, a deputy’s vehicle hit a tree and another deputy’s vehicle crashed into a backyard fence, where a fence post was sent through the window, barely missing the deputy, according to HCSO.
Deputies successfully performed a pit maneuver that ended the pursuit, HCSO said.
Bolton has been charged with:
- Aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a motor vehicle X3
- Aggravated fleeing to elude law enforcement
- Possession of Marijuana
- Driving while license suspended
Three deputies were treated at Tampa General Hospital for minor injuries.
