Three people were transported to a hospital in serious condition Thursday morning after a fire broke out in a vacant Northwest Jacksonville home, according to the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department (JFRD).
The fire was first reported around 11 a.m. at a home on West 7th Street, JFRD said.
The three individuals were in different rooms when the fire broke out, first responders told News4JAX.
The individuals, who all suffered from smoke inhalation, were transported to UF Health, according to JFRD.
Neighbors said the home was boarded up and to their knowledge, no one lived there. They said this is the second fire that has happened on the street within the last year.
“I looked there to the right toward the house, it was engulfed in flames and a lot of sparks coming from the transformer, because I think it might have exploded too,” a neighbor said. “And then few seconds later, I knew I ran back in, put on some clothes, and then fly on super close and ran back out right quick, and then come out. They was taking three gurneys toward the house.”
Another neighbor said it was bizarre because they didn’t see activity or people going in and out of the house.
The Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigations was investigating the cause of the fire.
