The Tampa Police Department has launched an investigation following a fight in a movie theater parking lot that reportedly left three people injured and others shaken up after a gunshot was fired into the air.
Officers responded to the AMC on Highwoods Preserve around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 following reports of a disturbance in the parking lot, the police department reported.
Police said their initial investigation found that one shot was fired into the air by a woman who was involved in a fight outside the movie theater.
No one was hit by the shot fired, but officials said three people sustained minor injuries as individuals ran from the area.
Officials said the incident was not an active shooter situation. It is not known what led up to the fight.
“This troubling incident serves as a clear reminder that violence is absolutely unacceptable as a means of conflict resolution,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement. Our community will not tolerate such behavior, and we will take decisive action. We are conducting a thorough investigation, and we will hold those responsible fully accountable, as we continue to ensure the safety of our residents.”
Detectives were still working to identify those involved in the fight Sunday. No further information was immediately available.
Anyone with information that could assist detectives is encouraged to call 813-231-6130 or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-Tips (8477).
