30-year-old man charged with punching Escambia County deputy in the face

A 30-year-old man is facing a felony charge for punching an Escambia County deputy in the face, according to an arrest report.

M. A was arrested Sunday morning on a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer.

The incident happened Sunday at 7 a.m.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a home on Clairmont Drive for a Baker Act complaint.

Deputies eventually surrounded A as he was on top of a bed “yelling and cursing at deputies,” according to the report.

The report states A said he was “not afraid to catch a battery on law enforcement charge.”

When deputies tried to apprehend him, A punched a deputy in the face, breaking the deputy’s glasses valued at $365, according to the report.

Deputies were eventually able to place him in handcuffs.
