Four people were hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries in a crash Saturday morning which forced all southbound lanes of State Road 429 to temporarily be shut down in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred in the area of mile marker 20, near exits to Winter Garden Vineland Road, troopers said.
According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the crash involved a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, a 2021 Nissan van with a trailer attached and two tractor-trailers.
As all of the vehicles traveled southbound, the Chevrolet failed to maintain the inside lane and entered the inside center lane in the direct path of the Nissan, the report states. The Chevrolet struck the Nissan as a result, causing the Nissan to travel into the outside center lane in the direct path of one of the tractor-trailers, according to FHP.
That tractor-trailer then struck the Nissan, causing the tractor-trailer to jackknife and catch fire in the outside lane and in the direct path of the other tractor-trailer, which then struck the burning semitruck, troopers said. The second tractor-trailer then ran off the roadway and onto the outside shoulder, according to FHP.
All southbound lanes of S.R. 429 were temporarily blocked, but have since reopened.
Videos provided to News 6 by Kate LoDestro Burzachiello — viewable at the top of this story — show the smoke and flames of the burning tractor-trailer, as well as the other tractor-trailer on its side near the roadway.
FHP is still investigating.
