6 sleeping residents rescued from Winter Haven house fire

Six people in Winter Haven were rescued after a neighbor reported seeing flames in their home early Friday morning.

Around 5:34 a.m., Winter Haven police responded to the home on 3rd Street Northeast and began rescuing the residents who were sleeping inside and unaware of the fire.

Officials said the fire was confined to the back of the home. As Polk County Fire Rescue units arrived, they were able to keep the flames from spreading.

The six people are displaced and the American Red Cross is assisting them, according to the police department. Thankfully, there were no injuries.

According to fire crews, the home sustained damage to only the back of the home, which includes the kitchen and laundry room.
