68-year-old man dies after being hit by car, pick-up on US 17 in Clay County: Florida Highway Patrol

A 68-year-old Green Cove Springs man died Tuesday morning after being hit while walking across U.S. 17 at Lovers Lane, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to FHP, around 7 a.m. Tuesday, as the man was crossing the highway in Clay County, he stepped into the path of a car that was headed north on U.S. 17. The impact sent the pedestrian tumbling into the next lane, where he was run over by a pick-up truck.

Both drivers stopped at the scene. Neither was hurt.

The two drivers and a passenger in the car, who are all from Palatka, were all wearing seat belts, troopers said.
