7-year-old boy dies following Friday crash in Santa Rosa County

A 7-year-old Holt boy has died following a two-vehicle crash in Santa Rosa County on Friday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Sandy Forest Road and Bryant Bridge Road, according to FHP.

Troopers say a 73-year-old Holt woman was driving an SUV west on Bryant Bridge Road, while a 59-year-old Ponce De Leon man was driving a pickup trucksouth on Sandy Forest Road.

According to FHP, the pickup truck driver ran a stop sign and collided with the right side of the SUV. The SUV — which was carrying 7 and 8 year-old boys as passengers — then overturned on its side.

Following the crash, the 7-year-old boy was flown to the hospital with critical injuries. He later passed away from his injuries Saturday afternoon, according to FHP.

The 73-year-old woman was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, while the 8-year-old boy was transported with minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was also transported with minor injuries.

And investigation is ongoing.
