According to a press release issued by the Cocoa Beach Police Department on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, on the evening of December 31, 2023, tragedy struck as a vehicular collision unfolded on West Cocoa Beach Causeway (SR520), just west of Bicentennial Park in Cocoa Beach.
According to the press release, at 9:08 PM, officers from the Cocoa Beach Police Department swiftly responded to a report of a Vehicle Crash with Injuries, discovering two vehicles involved and an extended debris field on the roadway.
The preliminary findings indicate a rear-end collision, with speed potentially playing a contributory role. Both vehicles had drivers and occupants who sustained injuries, prompting their immediate transportation to local hospitals for treatment.
In light of the extensive debris field, West Cocoa Beach Causeway (SR520) was temporarily shut down, with the collaborative efforts of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, to facilitate a comprehensive crash investigation.
Following the completion of the initial inquiry, the roadway was reopened to normal traffic.
Regrettably, Pamela Morrison, a 70-year-old resident of Barney, Georgia, a passenger in one of the vehicles, succumbed to her injuries resulting from the incident.
