71-year-old pedestrian critical after being hit by a pickup truck

A 71-year-old Bradenton woman is in critical condition after being struck Thursday morning by a pickup truck at the intersection of Lockwood Ridge Road and University Parkway.

The pickup was driven by a 50-year-old Bradenton woman who had stopped in the southbound right turn lane of Lockwood Ridge Road, for a yield sign. The pickup driver then proceeded forward, and hit the 71-year-old woman, who had left the sidewalk to cross the roadway. The accident occurred at 8:48 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol report said the 71-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. The FHP did not identify either woman or the hospital the injured woman was sent to. The driver of the pickup was not injured.

The crash is under investigation.
