An 89-year-old Jacksonville man was killed Monday morning when his pickup truck crashed in Nassau County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The FHP report said the gold 2004 Toyota Tacoma was headed north on U.S. 1 just north of the Duval/Nassau County line around 9:40 a.m. Monday when it veered into the right shoulder for unknown reasons.
The truck hit a mailbox, kept going, careened into the ditch, then flipped and hit a fence, a flatbed trailer and a parked utility truck in front of AJ Welding and Repair Inc.
After hitting the utility truck, the pickup slammed into a tree.
The driver, who was wearing his seat belt, died at the scene, troopers said.
