An elderly Boynton Beach man died Wednesday afternoon, nearly a week after the SUV he was driving went off the road and struck a tree, authorities confirmed.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) confirmed Robert Stein passed away while in hospice care for the injuries he suffered in the wreck.
The crash report states Stein, 92, was heading west on Boynton Beach Boulevard around 5:30 p.m. on August 8, and approaching the traffic light at the Lawrence Road intersection. Investigators determined Stein did not see that the cars ahead of him were slowing down for the light.
According to the report, his 2023 Chevrolet Equinox was in the inside lane and Stein swerved across the other two lanes and went off the right side of the road. His SUV went over the curb and sidewalk before Stein pulled it to the left and the Equinox hit the tree, PBSO stated.
Stein was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Nobody else was in the vehicle with him at the time.
