Crash blocks traffic on State Road 26 in Alachua County, driver hurt

A major roadway in Alachua County was blocked on Tuesday morning due to a crash.

Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies say a pickup truck crashed into a tree near the Ameris Bank on State Road 26 in Melrose.

Alachua County firefighters responded to rescue the driver who was trapped inside the vehicle. A helicopter was sent to take the patient to the hospital.

The crash blocked lanes on the state road in both directions, but the streets were reopened Tuesday afternoon.
