Two people were taken to the hospital Thursday after gunfire broke out on a Pinellas County road, police said.
A spokesperson for the St. Petersburg Police Department said people in two separate vehicles began shooting at each other around noon.
The shooting resulted in one of the cars crashing near 49th Street and 17th Avenue South, according to authorities.
A 19-year-old who was in that car suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital for treatment. As of Thursday afternoon, officials said the 19-year-old was in critical condition.
His 18-year-old brother, who was also in the car, was injured during the crash, according to police. The 18-year-old was listed in stable condition.
A suspect was taken into custody following the shooting, but it’s unclear if any formal charges have been filed.
Police did not release any further information regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting nor details about the people involved.
