Two homes were struck by lightning in Jacksonville as strong storms moved across the area Sunday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

The First Coast News Most Accurate Weather Team says there were hundreds of lightning strikes across Jacksonville Sunday afternoon.

One lightning strike hit a home on Highland Glen Way, and another hit a home on River Knoll Drive, according to JFRD.

The strikes caused fires at both homes, but no injuries were reported.

Officials said the strike at the River Knoll Drive home hit the attic, leaving behind a hole in the roof.

A neighbor told First Coast News they saw smoke coming from the top of the home and large flames coming through a window.

In the event your home or residence is struck by lightning, a JFRD official says to check your surroundings before exiting and don’t run out right away. Look to see if there is smoldering coming from the impacted home before going outside.
