A man is in custody after barricading himself inside of a home in Homosassa, according to the Citrus County sheriff.
Sheriff David Vincent said law enforcement responded to a reported domestic disturbance involving gunfire on Friday.
Citrus County deputies were called to a home on South Palmer Avenue at around 9 a.m., where they heard more shots fired. The sheriff’s office said a boy escaped the home and fled to a nearby residence, but a woman was believed to have been shot and was being held hostage inside.
After several hours of negotiations, the suspected shooter, MLM, 37, surrendered and was arrested at around 1:18 p.m. SWAT members found a woman dead inside the home.
“This was an emotional and dangerous situation from the start,” Sheriff David Vincent said in a statement. “Our teams remained calm, focused, and worked tenaciously to prevent further loss of life. While we’re grateful the situation didn’t escalate further, we’re saddened by the tragic outcome. Our hearts go out to the family of the victim.”
Officials did not say what charges M faces in connection to the incident.
