A Ford F-450 struck and killed a bicyclist in Pompano Beach on Thursday before the boat it was towing broke loose and smashed into parked cars.
The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the 2700 block of Northeast 14th Street Causeway in Pompano Beach. According to detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), while traveling westbound, the truck veered right rapidly to avoid a bicyclist illegally crossing, which detached the boat trailer and sent it into a business parking lot, damaging two cars.
The bicyclist, identified as Anastazia Hitz, was transported by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue to Broward Health North, where she was later pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that speed, impairment, and mechanical malfunction were not contributing factors to the crash.
Deputies say the investigation is ongoing at this time.
