Pensacola woman convicted of shooting woman in the head during break-up

A 37-year-old woman has been found guilty of shooting another woman in the head in Pensacola in May 2024.

A jury found ZD guilty on Tuesday of Attempted Second Degree Murder with a Firearm under the Florida 10-20-Life statute. Sentencing is set for Sept. 10.

The shooting happened on May 6, 2024, around 2:40 a.m. at I and Intendencia streets.

“A 911 caller stated he heard shots fired and saw a person rummaging through a car outside of his house while someone was lying in the street,” the State Attorney’s Office says in a release. “The first responding officers determined the victim had been shot in the head, and she was taken to the hospital for her life-threatening injuries.”

According to the arrest report, D and the victim had been in an intimate relationship, but “were in the process of ending the relationship” on the night of the shooting.

Authorities say the victim survived the shooting and spoke to investigators once she came out of a coma.

“The victim was able to tell law enforcement that she and [D] had been at a downtown bar (Play) celebrating Cinco de Mayo on May 5, 2024, when [D] was kicked out of the bar for fighting with other patrons,” the release states. “The victim drove the [D] home where over the course of several hours, [D] continued to argue and fight with the victim. After [D] took the victim’s keys to prevent her from leaving, the victim started to walk home. A few minutes later, [D] approached the victim in her own car on I Street. When [D] got out of the car to argue with the victim again, the victim ran to the driver’s seat and tried unsuccessfully to lock the doors. [D] entered the front passenger seat of the car where the arguing continued. During the argument, [D] pulled out a 380 Ruger handgun and held the firearm to the neck of the victim while asking the victim if she knew [D]would shoot her. The victim responded that she did and tried to push the gun away from her. [D] shot the victim in the back of the head. [D] then removed the victim from the car and left her in the roadway to die while she fled the scene.”

Dees is being held in jail without bond until sentencing.
