8-month-old baby killed in Pasco County crash with DUI driver

8-month-old baby killed in Pasco County crash with DUI driver

An 8-month-old baby boy was killed in a crash involving a DUI driver, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At around 1:36 a.m. on Saturday, 32-year-old AMB, of Clearwater, was driving a Chevy Silverado on US-19 in Pasco County.

B attempted to overtake an Audi, driven by a 27-year-old G man, who had his 8-month-old baby with him. The baby was in a car seat in the back of the Audi, FHP said.

The Audi was approaching the intersection of US-19 and Flora Ave. and was slowing down for other traffic. B failed to slow or stop and rear-ended the Audi.

The baby suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Troopers determined B was driving impaired, and he was arrested with a BAC of 0.089. Drivers in Florida can be charged with DUI if their BAC is 0.08 or higher.
