A 10-year-old boy was flown to the hospital Wednesday evening after suffering serious burns in a fire at a Clearwater home, officials said.
The fire started around 8 p.m. after the boy piled clothes on a hot plate in a bedroom at his home on Russell Street, according to preliminary information from Clearwater officials.
Clearwater firefighters and police responded to the residence. Authorities said the boy suffered second-degree burns and was flown to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.
According to officials, the fire did not spread any further throughout the home.
The Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
No further information was immediately available Wednesday night.
