Teen unscathed after flipping car while speeding through heavy fog: FHP

An 18-year-old Tarpon Springs woman was surprisingly unharmed after flipping her car while attempting to enter the interstate in St. Petersburg on Sunday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened at around 7:40 a.m., when much of Pinellas County was blanketed with dense fog.

The teen, who was driving a Kia Forte, was traveling east on the Gateway Expressway and entered the southbound ramp leading to I-275.

FHP said she was traveling “at speeds too fast for conditions,” and failed to negotiate a sharp curve on the ramp.

Her car went off the roadway and overturned before landing in the grass next to the roadway.

The teen driver was fortunately unharmed but received a citation for reckless driving.
