A woman was shot Monday morning when she interrupted an apparent burglary at her Columbia County apartment, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the call came in just before 10:45 a.m. about a person being shot on SW Michigan Street.
They found the woman lying in the yard in front of an apartment and rushed her away in a patrol vehicle to meet paramedics who were en route.
The woman was able to tell deputies that when she came home from shopping, she found a tall man in dark clothing standing in her apartment and he shot her.
Investigators did not indicate the extent of her injuries.
Deputies quickly tried to contain the area and ordered everyone nearby to shelter in place, but when SWAT entered the woman’s home, the shooter had already run from the apartment.
Investigators are asking anyone around SW Marion Street, SW Ponce De Leon Avenue, SW Michigan Street, and SW Maryland Lane to review any doorbell, home security, or dash cams from Monday morning.
They said if you spot anything suspicious or a person running by your home or through your yard matching the description of the tall man wearing all dark clothing, please contact the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office at 386-719-2005.
If you have any information and wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers of Columbia County at 386-754-7099 or visit www.columbiacrimestoppers.net.
