2 people rescued after vehicle crashes into retention pond near I-75 exit in Fort Myers

Two people were rescued after a vehicle crashed into a retention pond in Fort Myers near I-75 Exit 136 northbound Friday evening.

According to the South Trail Fire Protection & Rescue Service District, both people escaped the sinking vehicle and waited on top of it.

Neither of them could swim, so a rescue swimmer with a life jacket and rescue board assisted them to the shore, the fire district said. Both victims were transferred to Lee County Emergency Medical Services for treatment.

The Fort Myers Fire Department helped with the rescue.
