FHP: Bicyclist dies in crash with Jeep on US-301 in Dade City

A bicyclist was hit and killed by an SUV Monday night on U.S. 301 in Dade City, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a 73-year-old Dade City man was driving a Jeep Cherokee northbound around 9 a.m. when, south of Ruth Avenue, he crashed into a man riding a bicycle in the travel lane. The bicycle did not have lights, according to investigators.

The bicyclist died at the scene, per FHP. The identity of the cyclist has not yet been released as the investigation continues.

Troopers are working to determine why the bicyclist was in the travel lane and what factors may have contributed to the crash.
