A motorcyclist was killed and two others were seriously injured in a crash on Jacksonville’s Northside just after midnight Saturday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP said that around 12:30 a.m., the motorcyclist, identified as a 32-year-old man from Jonesboro, Ga., was traveling northbound on US-17 at a “high rate of speed.”
Two sedans were reportedly stopped at a red light in the northbound lanes of US-17 at the intersection of New Berlin Road.
According to a release from FHP, the motorcyclist “failed to stop” and rear-ended one of the sedans, causing that vehicle to rear-end the second sedan.
“All three vehicles traveled a short distance and came to final rest blocking the northbound travel lanes of US-17 and the intersection of New Berlin Road,” the release states.
The drivers of the sedans, a 65-year-old woman and 42-year-old man, both from Jacksonville, were taken to a local hospital, FHP said. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identities of the individuals involved were not released.
