25-foot speedboat burns at Marriott hotel, fire now extinguished

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Firefighters battled a speedboat fire at a Marriott hotel on Thursday.

According to Martin County Fire Rescue (MCFR), at 11:04 a.m., crews responded to a blaze at the Marriott IRP Hotel & Convention Center docks. When firefighters arrived, they found a 25-foot speedboat actively on fire. Fire crews found the blaze had started while the battery was being changed on the vessel.

As of this writing, the fire has been extinguished, the power to the dock area has been secured, and the fire has been contained to the boat.

People in the area are asked to avoid the area as fire crews finish mop-up operations.
