Two people were hospitalized after a water rescue in Cocoa Beach on Tuesday afternoon, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.
Upon arrival, crews located four victims, including a child, in the water. Crews immediately began life-saving measures for two of the individuals.
They were later transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The two victims were a 42-year-old male from Connecticut and a 34-year-old female from Ohio.
“Despite the efforts of first responders and hospital staff, both individuals were pronounced deceased,” city officials said Tuesday evening.
Further investigation indicates the incident was related to a rip current.
The child involved in the rescue did not require medical attention, and the fourth person refused transport, according to fire rescue officials.
