Miramar police sergeant accused of punching girlfriend in mouth after asking about their relationship status

Miramar police sergeant accused of punching girlfriend in mouth after asking about their relationship status

A Miramar police sergeant accused of battering his girlfriend at her Miami-Dade County home was released from jail Tuesday after posting bond.

According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Devarious H’s girlfriend went to an MDSO station Saturday and said she wanted to report an incident that occurred between her and her boyfriend the previous day.

Deputies said the victim claimed that H, 32, texted her at about 7 p.m. Friday, saying “Come outside. My mom wants to talk to you.”

The victim said she was confused because she knows H’s mother died in 2017, the report stated.

According to the report, the woman then walked toward a parked vehicle outside her home and spotted H standing next to it.

Deputies said H approached the victim and asked, “So we’re done?”

According to the report, the victim walked to her sister’s home that’s located on the same property as hers, believing H would follow her, but she said she quickly realized H had actually entered her own house.

The report states that the victim went inside her home and H threw her cellphone at her, “missing her but striking the door.”

He then grabbed her by the shoulders, pushed her down onto the couch and then punched her in the bottom lip when she tried to stand up, authorities said.

Deputies said H then kicked the victim in the right leg before she ran to her bedroom and locked the door.

According to the report, H began kicking the bedroom door, causing the door frame to break.

He then continued questioning the victim about the status of their relationship as the victim repeatedly asked for her phone back, authorities said.

According to the report, H left the victim’s home but returned a short time later and continued arguing with her before hitting her in the chest area, causing redness to her chest and causing her chain to break.

Jail records show H faces charges of battery and criminal mischief.

He did not say anything after being released from jail on bond Tuesday evening.

A Local 10 News crew was outside the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center Tuesday as H was released after posting an $1,150 bond.

He was seen leaving the jail wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a mask and glasses.

Local 10 News reporter Jeff Derderian asked H about the charges and whether he struck the alleged victim. H did not respond to either question.

The Miramar Police Department released a statement to Local 10 Tuesday, confirming that H has been “placed on administrative leave” pending the outcome of an internal review.

“The Miramar Police Department was notified by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office of an off-duty incident involving Sergeant Devarious H.

“The Department acknowledges the matter referenced and has initiated a thorough administrative review in accordance with established departmental procedures. Sergeant H has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of that review.

“The Miramar Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and ethical conduct, and will address this matter through the appropriate channels.”
