Patrol car involved crash delays I-75 commuters Tuesday afternoon

An investigation is underway of a major crash on I-75 northbound, just past Sumter Blvd.

The crash happened around 4:10, Tuesday afternoon, and involved a large truck striking the overpass bridge of Ponce De Leon Blvd.

The truck also struck a marked police cruiser.

FHP confirms the Department of Transportation has been called in to provide an assessment of any damage done to the overpass.

A right lane is blocked just beyond Sumter Blvd on I-75 north, with nearly 1 mile of slow traffic.

Southbound is even slower, having a 4 mile back up from curious on-lookers.
