A driver was killed and two people suffered minor injuries early Saturday after a Honda Civic crossed a median, struck a minivan and caught fire on Jog Road, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened about 3:42 a.m. Aug. 15 as a 2026 Honda Civic was traveling north on Jog Road at a high rate of speed while approaching Lantana Road, a sheriff’s traffic crash report states.
Investigators said the driver lost control for an unknown reason and struck the center median on the north side of the intersection. The Civic then crossed into the oncoming lanes and began rotating counterclockwise.
The rear passenger side of the Honda struck the front of a southbound 2015 Toyota Sienna, according to the report.
The Civic continued northwest off the roadway, struck a chain-link fence and came to rest before catching fire and becoming fully engulfed, investigators said.
The Honda’s driver, identified in the report only as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said they had been unable to identify him as of the report’s release and had not notified his next of kin.
The Toyota’s driver and a teenage passenger were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The report indicates the driver was wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation.
