A three-vehicle crash in southwest Ocala sent more than a dozen people to the hospital on Tuesday.

Among the injured were county fire officials riding in an ambulance and special-needs adults who were riding in a small bus. Here’s what we know:

At the intersection of Southwest 80th Avenue and Southwest 90th Street.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said an ambulance with lights and sirens activated was traveling west on 90th Street. A small bus from Bridge to Hope Community Education Center, an adult day training center, was traveling south on 80th Avenue.

Officials said the bus driver failed to yield for the ambulance and the vehicles collided.

The ambulance was tipped on its side. Troopers said a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck also was involved in the crash. That driver, a man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, officials said.

Spokesman James Lucas said 11 special-needs adults and the bus driver suffered minor injuries and were transported for treatment.

Two MCFR officials, both men, were inside the ambulance heading to a medical call, Lucas said. Those men also suffered minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital. Lucas said another vehicle went to the original medical call.

Lucas said his agency was assigned the call at 8:58 a.m. and arrived within a minute.

The intersection was blocked after the crash. Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies directed traffic.
