On Friday, Orlando police announced that an arrest had been made in the deadly shooting of a father of five.
“Was it worth it? That’s all I have to say to him. Was it worth it?”
That’s what Tasha says she wants to ask 36-year-old Aaron Willis, who’s accused of shooting and killing her cousin, 35-year-old Terry Shawn Rivers.
Rivers left behind five children. Tasha says the suspect, Willis, has kids of his own.
“You took my cousin from his kids … now the justice system will take you from yours. You’ll watch them grow up behind bars,” she said.
Orlando police said Rivers was shot and killed on Jan. 7 outside of a parking garage on South Orange Avenue. He attempted to drive away after being shot, only to crash into a building across the street.
He died at the hospital.
“It’s hard to accept. Part of me still doesn’t want to accept that he’s gone. I haven’t swallowed that pill yet,” Tasha said.
Something else Tasha and Tree-Tree haven’t been able to accept yet – Willis being the person arrested for the crime.
They say he’s someone who felt like family to them. They still can’t believe he was involved.
“He has a great job, kids. Aaron, I just didn’t see this for him,” Tree-Tree, another cousin of Terry, said.
They say even with a suspect behind bars, nothing can replace the loss of their cousin.
“The pain is still there, and we still have to go every day without him. Every day with just our memories of him. So, is justice really served?” Tasha said.
Willis has been charged with second-degree murder with a firearm.
