A man was shot and injured while inside his vehicle on Thursday night in Lehigh Acres.
“The bullets hit my arm. My arm got heavy and all I could do was hold on to the wheel so I wouldn’t lose control of the car,” said E A, who was shot.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested R R, 33, in connection with the shooting.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, around 7 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting in front of a home on the 800 block of Meadow Road.
LCSO said the victim was inside the car when he was shot at. He received non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives learned that the victim and another adult were traveling down Meadow Road when they realized the passenger door was not closed.
“My cousin stopped because my door wasn’t closing, so he stopped on the street and that’s when they started shooting,” said M P, who was in the car with A and had a bullet graze her elbow.
Deputies said the victims stopped to fix the passenger door when R, who was outside the house, shot a gun at the vehicle.
It struck the vehicle multiple times on the driver’s side, injuring the victim, who fled the area and called the sheriff’s office.
Witnesses say they were having dinner with R when they had repeated issues of a white sedan driving recklessly through the street.
According to LCSO, the witnesses watched R confront the people in the vehicle, which resulted in a fight. The occupants threw a drink at the family.
An hour later, the same white car slowly drove by the home again, and R told the witnesses he saw a gun being pointed at the family gathering from the vehicle occupants.
LCSO said according to witnesses, the victim’s vehicle stopped in from the home.
R claimed he fired at the vehicle in self-defense.
Detectives found 10 gun casings with broken glass consistent with damage to the victim’s vehicle.
A search of the victim’s vehicle located no guns, weapons or spent casings.
The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.
R was arrested for one count of shooting in an occupied conveyance and one count of aggravated battery, both a deadly weapon.
