Arrest made in December shooting death in Northwest Jacksonville: JSO

A 31-year-old Jacksonville man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 44-year-old Marcus Floyd in December 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.

Floyd was rushed to the hospital after officers found him shot several times on West 11th Street, but he died.

Investigators said that witness interviews and “other pertinent information” led to them identifying Myles Bennette as a person of interest.

Bennette, who was in custody on unrelated charges, was charged Tuesday with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Floyd’s death.

Police did not indicate how or if Bennette and Floyd knew each other or what led to the shooting.
