83-year-old man dead after morning crash on Highway 29 in Escambia County

An 83-year-old Brewton, Alabama, man was killed in a crash Thursday morning in north Escambia County.

It happened around 6 a.m. northbound on Highway 29 near Champion Drive.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the Brewton man’s pickup truck ran off the roadway, crossed the median and northbound lanes, ran off the roadway onto the shoulder and collided with a tree before overturning.

The passenger in the truck — a 62-year-old Brewton woman — was hospitalized with critical injuries.

The crash closed lanes for about an hour.
