A Fort Lauderdale police officer discharged their gun and struck a suspect after responding to a disturbance at Yacht House Park & Marina on Wednesday evening, authorities confirmed.
According to Fort Lauderdale Police Department Maj. Patrick Hart, the incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. when a property manager notified the officer about the disturbance.
Police said the responding officer made contact with the suspect and requested additional assistance.
Shortly after an altercation occurred, police said the officer discharged their gun, hitting the suspect.
Investigators said the suspect was transported to Broward Health Medical Center. The suspect’s condition has not yet been released.
Police confirmed the officer was uninjured in the incident and has been placed on paid administrative leave, in accordance with standard procedure, while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement continues to investigate.
