On Friday, a Bay County woman was arrested on outstanding warrants involving a fatal hit-and-run last year.
Officials said the charges stem from a crash that occurred in Walton County. The driver was identified as Heather Dickison, who was traveling westbound on Highway 98 on March 6, 2024.
According to a news release, the pedestrian from Santa Rosa Beach was jogging westbound on the north shoulder of Highway 98. The Ram 1500, driven by D, traveled off the roadway, crossing the north fog line and striking the jogger. The victim was wearing reflective running clothing during the time of her jog.
Tragically, the jogger was pronounced dead at the scene. D fled the scene, officials wrote.
Through the investigation conducted by the FHP Traffic Homicide Division, the Ram was identified as the vehicle involved. Further investigation identified Dickison as the driver.
An arrest warrant was obtained through Walton County. Officials said D was made aware of the warrants and failed to turn herself in.
A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle occupied by D on Friday, she was taken into custody and awaiting extradition to Walton County.
D was charged with leaving the scene involving death.
