Bay Pines VA patient attacked by employee, pulls fire alarm to get help

BAY PINES, Fla. (WFLA) — A Bay Pines VA hospital employee was arrested Monday after he was accused of battering a patient last month.

James Peter Chido, 40, worked as a housekeeper at the time of the Jan. 21 incident, according to an arrest report from Bay Pines VA police.

Police said Chido battered the victim with his fist, hit them with a knife, shoved them and put them in a chokehold “in an attempt to incapacitate the victim.” The blow with the knife cut the victim’s head and caused bruising, requiring extra medical treatment, according to the arrest report.

Chido was also accused of blocking the victim from escaping, causing the victim to resort to pulling a fire alarm to get help. He was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, simple battery and false report of a crime.
