‘Beyond reprehensible’: Tampa daycare worker arrested for child abuse, HCSO says

A worker at a daycare in Tampa was arrested Monday after he was accused of abusing a child in his care.

The incident happened on December 30 at Panda Hugs Academy on Bruce B. Downs Blvd., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Surveillance camera footage showed D P, 26, removing a 3-year-old boy from a chair and taking him to the bathroom, where witnesses said they heard loud banging noises, the toddler crying and P yelling, HCSO said.

The boy was found with “multiple lacerations and abrasions to the face and neck.” The sheriff’s office said he went up to a witness, touched his neck and pointed at P.

“No child should ever endure harm at the hands of someone entrusted with their care and education,” Sheriff C C said in a statement. “The actions of this individual are beyond reprehensible, and we will ensure justice is served for this child. Let this arrest send a clear message: we will not tolerate anyone who threatens the safety and well-being of the children in our community.”

P was arrested on Monday and charged with child abuse.
