Bicyclist dies after being struck by car while riding along Polk County road, Florida Highway Patrol says

A man riding a bicycle along a road in Polk County died after being struck by a Ford Mustang on Wednesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 8:53 p.m. along South Country Line Road, south of Ralston Road, as the Mustang was driven south by a 23-year-old Winter Haven man, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the driver traveled off the roadway and struck the bicyclist — identified as a 39-year-old Winter Haven man — on the shoulder before the Mustang then re-entered the roadway and struck a Mercedes-Benz SUV being driven by a 69-year-old Lakeland woman.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized, troopers said.

The bicyclist was also taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the report states.

No further details were shared or confirmed at the time of this report.
