A bicyclist was fatally struck by an SUV early Saturday while riding on a road near Winter Park, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 2:25 a.m. on State Road 436 (North Semoran Boulevard) near Hanging Moss Road, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, the SUV was traveling north in the outside lane of S.R. 436, approaching Hanging Moss Road, as the bicyclist rode northbound ahead of it in the outside lane. The SUV driver — a 33-year-old Casselberry man — told troopers that he didn’t see the bicyclist in the roadway, the report states.
The front right of the SUV struck the bicyclist, who was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital, according to FHP. The SUV’s driver and his passenger were not injured in the crash and remained at the scene, troopers said.
The identity of the bicyclist is pending word from the medical examiner’s office, according to the report.
FHP is still investigating.
